The Communications and Information Technology Commission in Saudi Arabia announced an increase in the penetration of 5G services in the Kingdom during the second quarter of 2021, bringing the total governorates covered by the fifth generation coverage to 60 governorates in various regions of the Kingdom, compared to 53 governorates during the first quarter of this year.
The authority revealed in its quarterly report “Meqas” for indicators of internet speed and speed of access to digital content in the Kingdom that “STC” company topped the list of the spread of 5G services in the Kingdom, as the company deployed 5G services in 56 governorates, while “Zain” came in second place. Where 5G services were deployed in 43 governorates, Mobily ranked third after 5G services were deployed in 21 governorates during the second quarter of this year.
The report issued by the Communications Commission at the end of the second quarter of 2021 monitored the registration of download speeds for the fifth mobile Internet in the Kingdom of an average speed of up to 370.12 megabits per second, and the registration of “STC” for the highest average download speed of the mobile Internet for the fifth generation service at a speed of up to 398.41 Mbps, Zain ranked second with an average speed of 351.25, and Mobily ranked third with an average download speed of 280.59 Mbps.
The Meqyas report also revealed that Zain ranked first in the performance of telecom service providers in deploying 5G services in the regions: Riyadh, Qassim, Hail, Eastern Province, Najran, Asir, Al Baha, Madinah, and Tabuk. While “STC” company topped the northern border region, Jazan, and Al-Jawf. While Mobily recorded the best performance in the Makkah region.
The Meqyas report comes within the framework of the Communications Commission’s work to enhance competition among operators to provide the best services to users.
