Saudi Arabia joins the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as its relations with China grow

Saudi Arabia has agreed to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as a dialogue partner, state media reported on Wednesday, in the latest sign of closer political ties with China. Besides China, the eight-member states include India, Pakistan, Russia, and four Central Asian countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. Iran joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as a permanent member last year.
