COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers, a Guangdong-based shipping transportation services provider, has won a contract to help expand Saudi Aramco’s Marjan offshore facility. According to the contract, the company will provide Aramco with two semi-submersible vessels and will help with transportation and installation services as well. Although recent Saudi and Chinese economic cooperation has largely been outside the oil trade, the expansion of the Marjan facilities represents an affirmation by Saudi Arabia in retaining its status as a leading global energy supplier, with China being one of the biggest recipients of Saudi oil.
