Minister of Industry and Information Technology Xiao Yaqing said the value-added output of the manufacturing sector in 2021 increased 9.8 percent year on year to 31.4 trillion yuan (about 4.97 trillion dollars), accounting for 27.4 percent of the country’s GDP.
In particular, the output of the high-tech industry increased by 18.2% year on year, while the output volume of the equipment manufacturing industry increased by 12.9%, while the digitization and green development of the sector also accelerated.
Meanwhile, China now has more than 4,700 national “micro-giant” companies, or small companies still in the early stage of development and focusing on new generations of information technology, high-end equipment manufacturing, new energy, new materials, and biomedicine. and other advanced fields.
In terms of 5G network development, Xiao said, the country had built a total of 1.43 million 5G base stations by the end of last year, with the number of mobile terminals connected to the network exceeding 520 million.
The minister said that the ministry will further stimulate investment in the manufacturing sector, and will encourage companies to upgrade their manufacturing technologies and accelerate the establishment of fifth-generation services and fiber optic networks.
